Toyota is having avery good year, even with those pesky recalls looming over the Japanese auto maker's head. The company posted a $2.2 billion dollar profit in the second quarter for 2010. This is a 27% increase in profit for the company.
The Toyota Camry and Prius Hybrid, which just celebrated its 10th anniversary, are two of the best selling models from the car maker.
Over in Japan, Toyota sold their one-millionth Prius hybrid. Here in the United States, the Prius has sold over 800,000 units to date.
"Toyota is now at a point where they feel comfortable giving good news," said Yuuki Sakurai, chief executive officer of Fukoku Capital Management in Tokyo. "The recall issue has settled down in the U.S. and China."
Toyota's first-quarter sales gained 36 percent in North America, its biggest market.
With sales rising, the company raised the forecast for the number of cars it will sell for the year by 1% to 7.4 million. Michelle Krebs, senior analyst for Edmunds.com, said about Toyota; "They are trying a lot of things to win back consumers' trust. If they learn their lesson, Toyota can come out of this a much stronger company."
